The clients' instructions were for us to remove the ugly box box extension on the back of their house and replace it with "an extension, full width and high, reminiscent of Sydney Opera House", so no pressure then!
We fully met the brief and the newly created dining room extension (christened 'Opera' by the client) with its structural glass facade and three dimensional curved vaulted ceiling, is pivotal in linking the TV room, kitchen and garden. We designed the kitchen with 50mm thick blue pearl granite worktops all with curvilinear edges, continuing the curvaceous theme. The doors of the dining room fold back fully, to maximise the enjoyment of the garden (or outside room), enhancing our 'inside-outside space' philosophy. The client was so overjoyed with the result they commented on their christmas card to us "you really do make dreams come true".
As seen on ITV1's 'Homes and Property' programme, featured in The Sunday Times 'Home' section, in 'SelfBuild and Design' magazine and as part of 'London Open House' 2007 and 2008 (London's leading Architecture Education Charity).
